Understanding ADHD in Adolescents and Adults
Dr Adams presented a seminar to GPs along with Dr Radha Baht, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Topics of the discussion ranged from risky teenage behaviour to the impairing disorganisation that affects a mother in her daily family functioning. Research was presented to help GPs understand how to identify age appropriate symptoms reflecting the disorder at its different stages of development across the lifespan. Another focus of the presentation was a screening tool for GPs.

Presentation to teachers
Covering all phases of education from nursery to secondary schools for teachers studying for an MA in Autism. The topic was the neuropsychological and medical aspects of autism and anger management in relation to pupils on the spectrum.

Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs!
Dr Adams presented research about the effects on the family of having a child with autism, such as the impact on siblings. There was also a discussion of how parents take a proactive approach, and personal sharing of their learning process that involves facing the many challenges as well as wonders when raising a child on the autistic spectrum.

12th September 2005 Foundations for Life Conference: Bromley Autistic Trust
Higher Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome
This one day conference looked at supporting young people with HFA and Asperger syndrome. The conference focussed on practical strategies to support those approaching and coping with the often-difficult period of adolescence and young adulthood. Attended by professionals working with ASD, parents, carers and individuals with ASD.
The day looked at coping with puberty, adolescence and negotiating difficulties that occur both at home and within the school during this period. Issues discussed included forming social and emotional relationships, making friends, and generally living life “in the mainstream”. In addition practical strategies for dealing with anxiety, stress and anger were explored.
Dr Adams was a guest speaker along with Luke and Jacqui Jackson and Wendy Lawson

Behaviour management for children with ADHD.
Dr Adams presented a workshop sponsored by the Royal College of General Practitioners: Early Years ID Conference in London. The topic was Evidence Based Intervention: Behavioural Management for Children with ADHD, including strategies to enhance prosocial behaviours. The conference was attended by primary care, mental health teams.
